Fabric Care Guide
Owning a piece of Batik Firda means preserving a beautifully crafted piece of Javanese heritage. To ensure your hand-painted Batik Tulis, traditional ATBM Tenun, luxurious Silk, and Premium Cotton collections retain their vibrant colors and structural integrity for generations, mindful care is essential.
Washing
We highly recommend gently hand-washing your garments using lerak (a traditional Indonesian batik soap made from soapnuts) or a mild, non-alkaline baby shampoo. Please avoid using harsh chemical detergents, bleach, or washing machines. Aggressive washing methods can strip away the rich dyes of the Batik Tulis and damage the delicate, hand-woven fibers of our silk and tenun pieces.
Drying
After washing, do not wring or twist the fabric to remove water, as this can distort the shape and weave of the material. Instead, gently press the fabric to squeeze out excess moisture. Hang the garment carefully or lay it flat to dry. Always air dry your pieces in a shaded, well-ventilated area, completely away from direct sunlight, which can cause the intricate colors to fade over time.
Ironing & Storage
When ironing is necessary, turn the garment inside out and use the lowest heat setting. For our delicate silk collections, we advise placing a thin pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric to protect it from direct heat. Store your Batik Firda pieces in a cool, dry wardrobe. We recommend using silica gel packets or natural spices, such as cloves or peppercorns, to ward off moisture and pests. Avoid using synthetic mothballs, as their strong chemicals can slowly degrade the natural fibers and dyes of your heritage pieces.
